Chisinau, 28 November /MOLDPRES/ - The old-style Orthodox Christians today start the Christmas Fast. This fast prepares the Christians for the great holiday of the Birth of Jesus Christ.
The Christmas Fast is of medium severity. During six weeks, the believers are not allowed to eat eggs, meat and dairy products. On Saturdays and Sundays, as well as on holidays, Christians are allowed to eat vegetable oil, wine and fish.
At the same time, priests say that the elderly people, children and the sick persons are exempted from an exclusively vegetal fasting.
On the fasting period, it is advisable for people to avoid conflict situations or contradictory discussions. They are also to beg pardon of those who angered them or whom they angered, so that the efficiency of the fasting is higher.
The Christmas fast will last till 6 January inclusively and on the Christmas Eve, the believers will not eat anything till afternoon, in order to mark the Birth of God with clean souls and bodies.
