Chisinau, Nov. 29 / MOLDPRES /- An internal audit procedure was initiated within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and its subordinate structures, after several violations were found. The announcement was made today during a briefing by Minister of Internal Affairs Ana Revenco, who said that following the audit, criminal cases could be initiated.
It was found that more than half of the procurement budget was spent without following the legal procedures, and some purchases were made at increased prices. Also, advance payments were paid to the economic operators for the works that were not executed. The money was also spent on the purchase and storage of equipment.
Also following the verifications, it was found that the institution offers about 120 services, and the vast majority are with outdated procedures. At the same time, other services provided by the ministry are written only on paper. Information systems that are not used or even missing have also been identified.
The head of the Ministry of Interior mentioned that independent experts and international consultants were invited to perform the audit, and as a result several criminal cases could be initiated.
