Romania marks National Day

Chisinau, 1 Dec. / MOLDPRES /- Today is the national day of Romania. December 1 marks the 103rd anniversary of the Union of Transylvania, Banat, Crișana and Maramureș with Romania.
December 1 was proclaimed Romania's National Day in 1990, being marked for the first time in the same year in Alba Iulia. Since then, every year, both in Bucharest and in most cities across the country, military parades take place and numerous ceremonies are organized, including the laying of wreaths and other events. In 2020, due to the pandemic, such events were canceled.
This year, the military parade will take place in the Arc de Triomphe Square in Bucharest. The ceremony will take place in a small format.
Until 1989, Romania's National Day was on August 23. Then was the Day of the Anti-Fascist Armed Insurrection, with reference to the return of weapons against Nazi Germany and the arrest of the government led by Ion Antonescu in 1944. And before that date, Romania's National Day was celebrated on May 10, to mark the proclamation of state independence. The choice of December 1 is related to the Union of Transylvania, Banat, Crișana and Maramureș with Romania, in 1918, respectively, to the Proclamation of Alba Iulia.
