Over 3,300 children from Moldova vaccinated against COVID-19

Chisinau, 1 Dec. / MOLDPRES /-So far, 3,387 children have got vaccinated with one dose and 1,572 with full scheme in Moldova. The Ministry of Health made public the data.
The national coverage with a dose of COVID-19 serum is over 28%, with a full scheme - over 27%. The highest vaccination rate with full scheme is registered in Chisinau - 40%, Soroca - 30% and Dubasari 28%. The lowest vaccination coverage is in Gagauzia - 17%, Sângerei -18% and Leova -19%.
In the context of the spread of the new Omicron variant of the Sars-Cov-2 virus, the representatives of the Ministry of Health came with several clarifications and recommendations. According to specialists, this variant of the virus has accumulated a significant number of mutations compared to the parental variant, which determines new characteristics of virulence and contagion. The new Omicron variant is thought to have appeared in South Africa in October following the infection of a confirmed HIV patient. The persistence of the Sars-Cov-2 virus in the body of a person with a weakened immune system has led to the creation of a significant number of mutations.
The Omicron variant was found in the samples collected on November 11 in Botswana and on November 14 in South Africa. According to data published by the European Center for Disease Control, there are currently over 30 confirmed cases with Sars-Cov-2, the Omicron variant. These were reported by eight countries in the European Union.
The ministry representatives urged people to comply with protection measures and to get vaccinated.
The Ministry of Health states that, so far, no case of infection with the new Omicron variant has been reported in the Republic of Moldova.
