Smallholder farmers likely to benefit from subsidies

Chisinau, 1 Dec. / MOLDPRES /- Micro and small agricultural producers in the Republic of Moldova could benefit from subsidies. Parliament's Agriculture and Food Industry Committee today approved the report on a draft law amending subsidy legislation.
According to the document, the changes provide for the inclusion of a new category of beneficiaries of subsidies - micro agricultural producer, which owns up to 2 hectares of land. Also, medium agricultural producer, who owns with right of ownership or possession and use from 10 to 75 hectares of land, large agricultural producer, which owns more than 75 hectares of land will get subsidies.
The document also provides for the efficiency of the monitoring process regarding the receipt of applications for post-investment grants. It is proposed to submit monthly, half-yearly and annual activity reports, in order to avoid the creation of debts to grant applicants.
According to official data, by 1 October 2021, 3,143 applications for post-investment subsidies worth 544.4 million lei were received.
