Moldovan foreign affairs minister meets NATO Deputy Secretary General

Chisinau, 3 November /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu today had a meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana, on the sidelines of the OSCE Ministerial Council’s meeting held in Stockholm. The officials discussed Moldova’s priorities in the cooperation with the North-Atlantic Alliance, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
„I thanked for the expertise and assistance of the Alliance, provided to Moldova during years for the promotion of the democratic reforms, including the contribution to the modernization of the national security and defence sector, in accordance with the new requirements and developments of the security environment,’’ Deputy PM Nicu Popescu said.
NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana reconfirmed the Alliance’s commitment for the partnership with Moldova. He reiterated the organization’s support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity for Moldova and the respect for the country’s neutrality status.
The officials also discussed ways of further backing the processes of reformation and modernization from the defence sector of Moldova, according to the needs of the national authorities, as well as of the Moldova-NATO cooperation agenda.
„I appreciated the support of the NATO states provided to Moldova to combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,’’ Nicu Popescu added.
