Chisinau, 5 Dec. / MOLDPRES /- The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) took note of the decision of the Bălți Court and the decision of the Bălți Court of Appeal regarding the cancellation of the registration of the electoral contestant Marina Tauber, appointed by the Shor Party for mayor in the new local elections in Bălți.
In this context, the members of the CEC found it impossible to hold the second round of the new local elections for the position of mayor with only one candidate in the Balti municipal constituency, given that the electoral legislation provides that the second round of elections is organized with 2 candidates.
In the absence of a two-candidate ballot, the members of the Commission, meeting in extraordinary session, were in a position to decide to suspend the second round, until the decisions of the courts of first instance and appeal remain irrevocable.
Starting from the decision adopted, this morning, by the Commission, the 60 polling stations from the Bălți municipal constituency No2 will not open on December 5, 2021, and the electoral bureaus of the respective polling stations will return, but not later than 07.00 on December 5, 2021, the Electoral Council of the Bălți municipal constituency No2 all election documents and materials, including ballot papers.
Thus, today, the second round of the new local elections for the position of mayor will be organized only in 5 localities in the country: Opaci village (Causeni district), Hârtop commune (Cimișlia district), Cupcini city (Edineț district), village Bălceana (Hâncești district) and Cneazevca commune (Leova district).
