Declaration on organization of so-called ballot in Moldova's Transnistrian region

Chisinau, 8 December /MOLDPRES/ - Declaration of the Reintegration Policies Bureau on the organization of the so-called ballot in the Transnistrian region of Moldova:

As it is known, the so-called ‘presidential elections’’ are scheduled to be held in Moldova’s Transnistrian region on 12 December this year.   

We find out that this exercise is held outside the constitutional framework and contrary to Moldova’s legislation in force.   

In the context, we reiterate the Moldovan government’s position that such ‘’elections’’ cannot be recognized and are regarded as null from the legal viewpoint. 

We underline that such an ‘’electoral’’ exercise is carried out in conditions of non-observance of the international democratic standards, cases of systemic suppressing of the freedom of expression and pluralism of opinions, presence of a tough information censorship in the region and other infringements of the human rights.      

At the same time, we urge the international partners to abstain from declarations, nominations of ‘’electoral observers’’ or other actions and contacts with Tiraspol representatives on this subject, in order to exclude any legitimization of the so-called ‘’elections.’’   

Such actions will be regarded as defiance of Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as might have a counterproductive impact on the Transnistrian settlement process.
