Chisinau, 8 December /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today gave a positive note to the legislative initiative on the change of normative framework of the protection of the environment for the prevention or reducing the generation of waste, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The document specifies the terminology provided for by the principal legislative acts which regulate the waste. At the same time, they specify the features of the dangerous waste.
The draft regards the ruling out of the ban on the incineration of worn-out tyres, which will allow extending the use of operations of turning to account waste, allowing its management through material or energy use. This represents a step to the switch to a circular economy, which fits into the provisions of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, Moldova is party to, according to which the worn-out tyres represent an alternative fuel, which can be used through co-incineration (for instance, the cement kilns).
The draft also envisages requirements of management of the dangerous waste, coming from the medical activity and establishes bans for the incineration and co-incineration of dangerous waste, except for cases when there is imminent danger for health and environment.
Moldova is party to a string of international treaties on the environmental protection. Also, decision-makers undertook a string of measures nationally, among which the restrictions imposed for the use and sale of bags, cutlery, plates and other mass accessories made of plastic.
