Several districts in Moldova to benefit from project to secure water supply and sanitation

Chisinau, 9 Dec. / MOLDPRES /- The Republic of Moldova is to initiate negotiations with the International Development Association in order to contract an external state loan worth about 43.1 million euros for the development of water and sanitation infrastructure in the districts of our country.
The parliamentary committee on foreign policy and European integration, with the vote of the majority of members, approved the start of negotiations on the draft financing agreement between Moldova and the International Development Association for the implementation of the project Security of water supply and sanitation in the Republic of Moldova.
The project is aimed at increasing access to water supply and sanitation services in a number of selected rural areas and cities, following an analysis by the World Bank. At the same time, it strengthens local and national institutional capacities to provide water supply and sewerage services.
The activities of rehabilitation and improvement of the water supply services will be carried out in the districts of Cahul, Vulcănești (Gagauzia Autonomous Territorial Unit) and Rascani. Likewise, the expansion and improvement of wastewater infrastructures will be carried out in the municipalities of Soroca and Comrat.
In order to carry out the project, the Republic of Moldova is to contract a loan of 43.1 million euros from the International Development Association and a grant of over 1.5 million euros from the Austrian Development Agency. The implementation of the Financing Agreement is expected for the period 2022-2027.
The proposed project will contribute to the implementation of the Water Supply and Sanitation Strategy 2014-2030 and the National Action Plan for the implementation of the Moldova-European Union Association Agreement for the period 2017-2019, which sets national intermediate targets for 2024.
