Chisinau, 9 Dec. / MOLDPRES /- In Gagauzia the number of cases of illegal deforestation in the public forest fund has suddenly increased, the press in the region has reported.
According to the specialists of the forestry authority and the subdivision of the Ecological Agency of Gagauzia,, the illicit cuts have intensified with the increase of gas price. Thus, "since the beginning of the year, there have been 40 cases in the region, and in the last three days, in three localities - six cases of illegal logging", according to Вести Гагаузии.
According to Evgheni Shevchenko, head of the Environmental Protection Inspectorate in Gagauzia, recently, in the village of Dezghinja and Comrat, 42 acacia trees were cut down, "with a diameter of barely 12 centimeters."
“Illegal loggers cause substantial damage to the environment, the consequences are borne by the local flora and fauna. At the same time, we must keep in mind that the Bugeac steppe is forested only in proportion of 13%, or, the deforestation is one of the main causes of climate change ", says Evgheni Şevcenco, quoted by gagauzinfo.md.
The local authorities are trying to save the situation, but the lack of humidity leads to the fact that some of the planted seedlings do not get caught.
This year, a large-scale campaign was launched in Gagauzia, entitled Plant a tree - grow a forest. So far, hundreds of seedlings have been planted in it, which, according to specialists, need multilateral care, in order to have the chance to grow and develop, benefiting the environment.
