Moldova attends international conference on security, human rights in digital age

Chisinau, Dec. 10 / MOLDPRES /- State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov participated on December 8-9 in the sixth edition of the international conference entitled - State, Security and Human Rights in the Digital Age, in the context of the project modernization of governance mechanisms focused on the protection of human rights.

The conference agenda included current topics for the current scientific, socio-cultural, legal and political space. According to the organizers, "numerous contemporary human rights challenges that are inextricably linked to the growing power of digital technology, such as artificial intelligence," were discussed.

"In the context of the rapid spread of new technologies, platforms created between government representatives, academia, associations and business and others, need to come together to formulate new protocols and rules, define red lines and build regulations. And a strong criterion in establishing these "red lines" remains human rights and national security, "said Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov.

The official proposed for discussion questions about the favorable factors, as well as about some challenges of the digitization process. Iordanov referred to the Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression in 2019 and pointed out in his presentation aspects of the threats that digital technology poses to democracy (election fraud, misinformation, online harassment, etc.), while other lawsuits special technologies are exploring how digital technologies can be mobilized to catalyze and strengthen the promotion and protection of human rights. ”

On December 7, the Republic of Moldova launched the process of developing the National Strategy for Digital Transformation, initiated by the Government, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). It includes the vision for the digitization of public services, the increase of digital skills, the involvement of citizens in the reengineering of services, the creation of an environment conducive to the adoption of digital technologies by the private sector.
