Moldovan president urges heads of state to strengthen efforts to fight corruption

Chisinau, Dec. 10 / MOLDPRES /- On International Day of Fight against Corruption, President Maia Sandu participated in Summit for Democracy on 9 December. The official approached challenges facing Moldova and efforts to prevent and fight corruption. The head of state said that the phenomenon of corruption has prevented our country from consolidating democratic processes, from developing and ensuring the well-being of its citizens, the presidential press service has reported.
Speaking at the Preventing and Combating Corruption panel, Maia Sandu urged the heads of state and government present at the Summit to step up efforts to combat illicit financial flows, to punish corrupt fugitives and to recover their assets they stole from the citizens. "We are determined to clean up Moldova of corruption, but we cannot do it alone. We must act together, " she said.
The summit is being organized in a virtual format at the initiative of President of the United States Joe Biden. Heads of state and government discuss the global challenges facing citizens, whether they are from a large or small country, rich or poor. In the video message addressed to the Summit participants, Maia Sandu referred to the fragility of democracy and the solutions needed to strengthen it: investing in people, eliminating corruption and global solidarity, essential for defending the values of government for citizens and restoring trust in the state.
