Chisinau, 10 December /MOLDPRES/ - The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have donated to the National Public Health Agency (ANSP) advanced equipment for quick identification of microorganisms as part of the management of severe COVID-19 cases, associated with bacterial superinfection.
The ultra-advanced laboratory equipment worth 299,000 dollars was donated by USAID and WHO, being part of the humanitarian assistance in the health sector as response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The equipment will detect also the bacterial superinfections in the COVID-19 cases treated in situations with no hospitalization, as well as of severe ones with hospitalization, including at intensive therapy sections. Thus, the crucial role of the MALDI-TOF apparatus is to quickly identify the bacteria and the type of strains, which will determine, depending on the result, the treatment based on proof of the COVIDS-19 case and will detect the profile of resistance to antibiotics, leading to the solving of the severe COVID-19 cases.
Attending the donation event, Health Minister Ala Nemerenco said that the equipment donated would allow quickly identifying the bacteria and their sensitiveness to antimicrobial things, which will allow correcting the treatment of the serious COVID-19 cases, associated with the bacterial superinfections.
At the same time, laboratory specialists and technicians were trained with WHO’s support in detecting new variants of SARS-CoV-2, the methodology of laboratory investigations, the quick antigen testing for SARS-CoV-2, use of techniques of molecular biology (RT-PCR) for COVID-19.
