Over 3,400 people in vulnerable groups received EU support during pandemic

Chisinau, Dec. 14 / MOLDPRES /- More than 1,500 packages of basic food, hygiene and personal protection products have been offered to the most vulnerable groups in society, so lonely seniors, people with disabilities and families with children in 14 districts have been helped to cope with the difficulties caused by COVID-19 pandemic.
Through the project Prompt response to COVID-19: Solutions for the urgent needs of vulnerable people in the Republic of Moldova, funded by the European Union and implemented by People in Need Moldova, about 30.7 tons of commodities were purchased and distributed to people to a greater extent affected by the pandemic.
The support of the European Union reached the districts of Anenii Noi, Cahul, Calarasi, Causeni, Criuleni, Dubasari, Glodeni, Hancesti, Straseni, Soldanesti, Balti and Chisinau, as well as in the cities of Leova and Sangerei. A total of 3,444 people received support, and their food and protection needs against COVID-19 infection were met for about 2 months.
At the same time, 133 elderly people, who have difficulty moving, received, in addition to food packages, walking aids that help them move more easily independently.
The total value of the European Union's support, provided through the project Prompt response to COVID-19: Solutions for the urgent needs of vulnerable people in the Republic of Moldova is 60,000 euros. The activities of this project were carried out in May -October.
