Chisinau, 14 December /MOLDPRES/ - The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has purchased 114 refrigerators for depositing vaccines, worth 1.5 million lei, from funds of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and delivered them to Moldova.
Attending the donation event, held today, was also Health Minister Ala Nemerenco. She thanked USAID for support, noting that the refrigerators would be delivered to the first medical assistance centres from Moldova, including to the districts from the left bank of Dniester. ‘’We appreciate the support provided by USAID Moldova and UNICEF Moldova ever since the beginning of the pandemic. The medical staff and the entire health system felt the support and involvement,’’ the minister noted.
The refrigerators have a depositing capacity of 60 litres and can cumulatively stock 3.4 million doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccines.
Health Ministry’s data shows that presently 22 per cent of the fridges used at the first medical assistance institutions are household and about 34 per cent of the refrigerators used for depositing vaccines nationally were bought more than 20 years ago and must be replaced.
So far, more than 300 refrigerators meant for preserving anti-COVID-19 vaccines have been purchased for Moldova through UNICEF.
