Moldova, European Commission to sign agreement of 60 million euros for energy crisis' management

Chisinau, 14 December /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers, at a today’s meeting, approved a draft decision on the starting of negotiations and approval of the signing of an agreement on financing between the Moldovan government and the European Commission on the Contract on strengthening the state and resilience for Moldova. The budgetary support will be provided as non-refundable assistance, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The agreement provides for the offering of a grant worth 60 million euros for the management of the crisis in the energy system. The financial means will be disbursed this year, in a single installment.
The main goal of the concerned support is to attenuate the social and economic impact, following the increase in the prices for natural gas, enhance the government’s capacity to provide personalized services to vulnerable groups, as well as for the long-term social and economic recovery, energy security and energy transition in Moldova.
The agreement will be signed at the Eastern Partnership Summit, in Brussels on 15 December. Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu will sign the document on behalf of Moldova and European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi - on behalf of the European Commission.
