Works on modernization of Leuseni customs checkpoint close to completion

Chisinau, 15 December /MOLDPRES/ - The works on the rehabilitation of one of the most important infrastructure objects at the border – the Leuseni customs checkpoint – are close to completion, being carried out at the level of about 80 per cent.
According to the Customs Service, starting from 10 December, two lanes were opened for the cross-border traffic in the direction of entering Moldova, in order to optimize the border control procedures and shorten the waiting time. The two lanes were reconstructed within an investment project titled, Rehabilitation and modernization of border customs bureaus at the Romania-Moldova border, respectively the customs checkpoints Albita-Leuseni, Sculeni-Sculeni and Giurgiulesti-Giurgiulesti, financed by the European Union and co-financed by Moldova’s government.
The value of the contract for the works of rehabilitation and modernization of the Leuseni customs checkpoint is of more than 16.8 million lei, of which 64.28 per cent represents grant and 35.72 per cent – the government’s contribution.
The term for the carrying out of the works at the Leuseni customs checkpoint established in the contract is 28 June 2022; yet, the customs authority plans their fulfillment before term.
Also, the Customs Service considers possibility to initiate a project on modernization of the Leuseni customs checkpoint also as regards the alternative energy, through setting photovoltaic panels, which will cut the expenses for the energy consumption and will contribute to the protection of the environment.
The project, Rehabilitation and modernization of border customs bureaus at the Romania-Moldova border, is financed by the European Union within the Joint Operational Programme Romania-Moldova 2014-2020, through the European Neighbourhood Instrument, and co-financed by the states participating in the programme.
