Moldovan lawmakers make amendments to law on monuments' protection

Chisinau, 23 December /MOLDPRES/ - The constructions from nearby the historical monuments will be banned. The parliament approved a draft law which provides for the amendment of the law on the protection of monuments in the first reading today.
Under the document, provisions on the ground of the monuments, their protection area and principles of intervention on them were introduced in the draft. In this respect, any action will be banned, both against the monument and in its protection area, which differs depending on its placement. In the urban settlements, the area of the protection zone is of 100 metres, in the rural ones – 200 metres and in settlements’ unincorporated area – 500 metres.
Also, the damages caused to the monuments will be covered by the monument’s owner or manager, as well as by the private people or legal entities which financed and carried out the works. Otherwise, the Culture Ministry will formulate action at law on the remedying of the damage, with the initiation of the procedure of expropriation for the monument’s cause of public utility.
