Draft envisaging verification of candidates for offices of members of two judicial bodies subjected to consultations in Moldova

Chisinau, 24 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Justice Ministry today carried out public consultations on a draft law which sees the verification of the integrity of all candidates for the office of member of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) and Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP), till the convening of the general assemblies of judges and prosecutors (pre-vetting).
Justice Minister Sergiu Litvinenco presented the principal provisions of the draft. ‘’ The draft on the pre-vetting implies the selection of integral CSM and CSP members – a first important step towards the cleaning of the justice system. We have also the support of the Venice Commission, which gave a positive opinion on our initiative and this makes us be firm in actions and more confident that we will succeed,’’ Litvinenco noted.
Most discussions were focused on the work of the commission for evaluation, access to information and its members, terms envisaged for the collection of information and evaluation of candidates. All recommendations and proposals will be analyzed and those which contribute to improving the draft law will be included in the final version.
Last week, the draft was sent to the competent institutions for approval.
