Chisinau, 24 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Christmas Fair was inaugurated on the square of the Nicolae Sulac National Palace today evening. Attending the launch event were President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

In her speech, PM Natalia Gavrilita referred to the importance of re-bringing the Christmas Fair to the heart of the capital after the break triggered by the pandemic, about its role in creating the atmosphere of holiday, as well as about the joy this period of year is generating. ‘’The winter holidays mean, first of all, the reunification with the family, the relatives and friends who return home,’’ the prime minister said.

Natalia Gavrilita noted that the current government took considerable efforts to create here, at home, attractive conditions for the Diaspora’s return, as well as to improve the living standards of all Moldova’s citizens.

„I assure you that the major changes just come. In 2022, the cabinet will bring projects on the country’s development – we will construct roads, ways of access, will renovate schools and kindergartens in more settlements of the country. We will massively invest in big infrastructure projects, will finance more local projects and will work, in continuation, for Moldova to become a place where one wants to live the present and edify the future,’’ the PM added.

For her part, President Maia Sandu said: ‘’We are a small country, but a big family. And Christmas has always been about the family and love, solidarity and generosity, about empathy and power to give. Therefore, I urge you, on these days, to take care of those who are lacking the warmth of the holidays.’’

This year, the Christmas Fair will be held simultaneously in more settlements of the country, where concerts and artistic events will be organized, with the participation of dozens of local folk bands and artists from the capital.

A special moment will be created by the charity programme titled, The Winter Tale, where the Wolves of Calancea and the Osoianu Sisters will go to villages and cities, will visit children’s homes, placement centres and, the most important thing, to share hope, light and trust where this is mostly necessary.

The Christmas Fair will be daily opened as of 10:00 till 22:00, starting from 24 December 2021 until 10 January 2022. Exception will represent the New Year night, when the Fair could be visited till 2:00 am.
