Chisinau, 28 December /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita has participated in the opening of the traffic on a new road bridge on the Balcani highway, km 95-96 of the M1 national road, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The bridge widened with 2 traffic lanes the belt road segment of Chisinau and eases the traffic in the zone. The cost of the works was of about 71 million lei, allocated from Moldova’s Road Fund. The bridge across the Bic river and the railway has a length of 60 metres and will shorten the time of travel for drivers, especially for those who move to and fro from the settlements of Ghidighici, Vatra, Gratiesti and other suburbs.
The construction of the bridge started in 2016 and was to be finished in the summer of 2020. Once the new government appointed in last August, the Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry undertook active measures to speed up the works in delay, so that the bridge is functional till late 2021.
Attending the opening of the bridge, PM Natalia Gavrilita said: ‘’An important role in the acceleration of the works at this infrastructure object was played by the new management of the State Administration of Roads and Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu, who kept the project under control from the first day of the new cabinet. We made sure that the decision-makers in charge of the project’s implementation and the authorities cooperate, in order to finish the works with responsibility and as quickly as possible. A revival is recorded on more eternal construction sites, inherited from the previous governances, and I think that, in the next spring, we will liquidate the debts and start new construction sites.’’
The opening of the bridge is part of a more comprehensive project, which provides for the widening of the belt road segment M1 Pruncul-Cricova to four lanes, construction of a multiple level junction with the Petricani Street from Moldova’s capital, building of lanes for turning to the left under the bridge inaugurated today, in order to separate the transport flows.
