Moldovan justice minister says leadership further counts on Romania's support in process of reforming justice

Chisinau, 29 December /MOLDPRES/ - Justice Minister Sergiu Litvinenco today had a meeting with Ambassador of Romania to Moldova Daniel Ionita, during which the sides discussed the principal sectors of cooperation.
At the meeting, Sergiu Litvinenco made a review of the main actions carried out since the taking over of the minister mandate. He also unveiled the ministry’s priorities in the justice field, among which the verification of the integrity of the candidates for the office of member of the Superior Council of Magistracy and Superior Council of Prosecutors (pre-vetting), external assessment of the judges and prosecutors, as well as the reform of the prosecutor’s office.
„We further count on Romania’s support in the process of justice reform. We followed the results Romania has in the strengthening of the anti-corruption institutions and reiterate our interest in taking over the good practices, especially in the field of combating corruption,’’ Litvinenco stressed.
For his part, the diplomat said that both Romania and the European Union wanted to back the justice reform in Moldova, in order to ensure the independence of the law-enforcement system and enhance the degree of citizens’ confidence in justice and the state’s institutions.
