Chisinau, 4 January /MOLDPRES/ - The European Commission today adopted a proposal for a new programme on macro-financial assistance worth up to 150 million euros, meant for Moldova.
Under the decision, the money will be provided following a request by Moldova and will be used for economic recovery. About 30 million euros are scheduled to be provided as grants, respectively, another 120 million euros will be given as medium-term loans.
European Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni said that this money would be conditioned on the fulfillment of commitments. ‘’Along with the new programme of IMF, this new proposal of macro-financial assistance would provide both grants and loans at favourable interest rates, in order to help the Moldovan economy in the next two years. As each time, this financing would be conditioned on the fulfillment of policy commitments,’’ the official said.
The plan on assistance for Moldova is to be approved by the European Parliament and EU Council, after which the money would be disbursed.
