Moldovan dulcimer player turns 75

Chisinau, 5 January /MOLDPRES/ - A well-known dulcimer player, holder of the honorific title, Master of Art from Moldova, Serghei Cretu, turned 75 years today.
Serghei Cretu was born in Furmanka, Odessa region, former small rural district of Chilia Noua, Ismail county (Ukraine), in 1947. According to the National Calendar, in 1962-1964, Cretu attended the music school from Slobozia, Tiraspol, and then the Stefan Neaga general music school from Chisinau (1964-1966) and the Gavriil Musicescu Arts Institute (1966-1971).
Cretu sang in the folk and light music orchestra of the National Radio and TV (1967-71), Alunelul band and in 1971-1989 – in the Folclor Folk Music Orchestra of the Moldovan Radio and Television.
In 1989-1991, he held the position of artistic director of the Tinerețea (Youth) Orchestra of the Youth Centre and then he worked as dulcimer player in the Flueras folk music orchestra of the Chisinau-based National Philharmonic (as of 1991).
In 1995, Serghei Cretu was awarded the honorific title, Master of Art from Moldova.
