Moldovan health ministry prepared three scenarios to deal with new wave of COVID-19

Chisinau, January 12 / MOLDPRES /- Ministry of Health has prepared three scenarios to deal with the new wave of COVID-19. They will be activated depending on the number of cases. Minister Ala Nemerenco made the statement today.

COVID cases number has increased by 77 percent last week, and yesterday the number exceeded 1,000 cases, an indicator last reached in November 2021. "It is also worrying that it has increased by more than 50 percent. and the number of cases of infection among children. At present, the Omicron version has not yet reached the level of a Community transmission, but in the coming weeks the situation will be different. We could have thousands of cases a day ", the minister said.

She added that the COVID treatment protocol has already been updated and 1,235 beds are being reactivated for COVID patients, 215 beds in intensive care. Today, 1,011 beds and 142 intensive care beds are occupied, mostly in Chisinau.

The official said that the COVID Center at Moldexpo is preserved, being kept only the sorting function. Nemerenco assured that there are enough stocks of medicines in the health system, and that a special preparation for the treatment of COVID patients is currently being registered with the Medicines Agency and will be included in the list of reimbursed medicines.

"With regard to the medicine produced by Pfizer, we are in direct discussions with the manufacturer. It will be purchased for hospitalized patients. We cannot ask citizens to buy special masks, but we do ask them to wear the masks they have. We are now looking at how to buy free masks for the socially vulnerable. We have already identified the resources and we are working on the compensation mechanism ", the minister concluded.

Nemerenco avoided giving details about the restrictions that will be imposed and specified that such decisions will be taken by CNESP, which will meet by the end of the week.

According to the Ministry of Health, so far the immunization rate in our country is 30 percent.
