Moldovan cabinet approves new rules for use of state's name in industrial trade-marks, design or models

Chisinau, 12 January /MOLDPRES/ - The right to use the official or historical name of the state in the industrial trade-mark, design or model will be given based on a new regulation, approved by the government today. The document regulates the procedure of considering the applications submitted by private people and legal entities from various activity sectors, as well as the restrictions of use of the state’s name, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Under the regulation, to get the right of using the country’s name, the applicant will appeal to the commission for the consideration of applications on giving permission to use the official or historical name of the state in the industrial trade-mark/design or model. The cabinet approved the commission’s composition and its regulation on work today.
The application to the commission will be submitted to the State Intellectual Property Agency (AGEPI) and will be examined in a 30-day period. If the needed conditions are met and the quality or nature of the product or service provided by the applicant do not jeopardize the image or interests of the state, the commission will issue a decision on giving permission to use the name of Republic of Moldova or Moldova. Otherwise, the commission will issue a decision on refusal.
