Former head of CFM to be extradited to Moldova

Chisinau, January 13 / MOLDPRES /- In the criminal case investigated by the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), the former head of the Moldovan Railway was detained by Interpol officers from Belgium for extradition to the Republic of Moldova.
According to the PCCOCS, the criminal investigation is based on several acts, including fraud, embezzlement, abuse of office. As for the former head of the MFF, the PCCOCS prosecutors incriminate him for committing abuse of office in the interests of an organized criminal group and the mismanagement of the company, in the period 2015-2019. The amount found for the damage at this stage on the file in which the facts of the accused are being investigated is 250 million lei.
In order to ensure the efficiency of the investigations, the prosecutors also ordered the application of seizures on the properties and assets of the former head of CFM and other figures in the case, amounting to 25 million lei, as well as the conduct of parallel financial investigations.
PCCOCS states that employees from the Intelligence and Security Service, the National Investigation Inspectorate of the General Inspectorate of Police, the State Fiscal Service, as well as from the Financial Inspection of the Ministry of Finance contribute to the investigation of the case.
