Chisinau, 15 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today conveyed a message on the occasion of the National Culture Day, marked in Chisinau and Bucharest on 15 January, the presidential press service has reported.

„The National Culture Day, the birthday of Mihai Eminescu, is the day which we should celebrate through work, effort, talent, courage and self-denial during the entire year.

There is not only a day of culture, there is the culture of every day, the culture of each gesture, of each thought, of each act and each moment experienced. The culture is not only show, ballet, embroidered peasant shirt or carol: the culture is the way we understand ourselves, the way we understand and accept the other one, the way we speak and behave with people around us, the way we understand our potential and present this oneness to the entire world,’’ President Maia Sandu said.

„The small countries are not obligatorily small cultures. It is important that we appreciate the cultural heritage conveyed by our parents and grandparents. It is important that we appreciate our talents and spiritual wealth not only when they are showed in other countries, but starting the moment when we see the first seed of talent in our children and young people. There is no prosperity without culture and education. There is no social tolerance, empathy and cohesion,’’ the president’s message also reads.

Also, Maia Sandu awarded the Mihai Eminescu Medal and diverse honorific titles to more culture people from Moldova, on the occasion of the National Culture Day, as well as for prodigious activity in the culture sector, substantial contribution to the promotion of the nation’s spiritual values, outstanding progress in the creative activity and high professional mastership.

„I have done it as a token of appreciation for the creators which remain faithful to art in the not at all simple present times and for their devotion for the profession,’’ the head of state also said in her message. Also, the ensemble of folk songs and dances Diuz-Ava from Comrat was awarded the title Merited Artistic Staff, for the preservation and perpetuation of the Gagauz traditions and culture.
