Moldovan parliament speaker lays flowers at bust to Mihai Eminescu on National Culture Day

Chisinau, 15 January /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, along with President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, Deputy Parliament Speaker Mihail Popsoi and other MPs today laid flowers at the bust to Mihai Eminescu on the Alley of Classics of the Stefan cel Mare Public Garden from the Moldovan capital. The ceremony was occasioned by the National Culture Day, marked on the birthday of poet Mihai Eminescu, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
In a message conveyed on this occasion, Speaker Igor Grosu said that the National Culture Day was a special occasion to pay homage to all those who dedicated their life to the flourishing of the national culture and the values of the nation.
”The national culture is the proof of our survival in time, is the perfect means of self-assertion of a nation in the world. In this respect, we are a lucky people – we have what to be proud with,’’ Igor Grosu said.
At the same time, on the National Culture Day, the parliament speaker paid homage to the outstanding personalities of the national culture, who died in the last year: writer Nicolae Dabija, painter Valentina Rusu-Ciobanu, singer Iurie Sadovnic and others.
”This was a huge loss for our culture; yet, their works, an inestimable value, will always last,’’ Igor Grosu stressed.
On the occasion of the National Culture Day, more people were awarded diplomas of Moldova’s parliament, as a token of gratitude for the special merits in the work and substantial contribution to the development and consolidation of the national culture. Among the people decorated, there are fine artists, musicians, directors of community centres, museums and libraries, teachers of art schools.
The National Culture Day was established in Moldova under a parliament decision in 2012. The holiday is dedicated to the birthday of great poet Mihai Eminescu – a personality who defines the essential values of the national culture.
