Number of COVID-19 cases increase by more than 135 per cent in Moldova

Chisinau, 18 January /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 8,686 cases of COVID-19 were registered in Moldova on 10-16 January 2022. The incidence was 233 cases per 100,000 residents, recording a growth of about 135 per cent against the first week of 2022 or by 241 per cent more against last December.    

According to data by the Health Ministry, on the aforementioned period, 55 cases of infection among pregnant women were recorded and the number of COVID cases among children increased from 230 in the first week to 724 in the second week of the 2022 year.      

Also on the period 10 – 16 January 2022, red code was recorded in two areas: the Chisinau municipality and the central Ialoveni district; orange code was registered in 27 areas and yellow code was established in 8 areas.  

According to the quoted source, in the second week of this year, 40,737 people were vaccinated and 109,162 people benefited from the booster dose.  

The national coverage with one dose in the general population is of about 30 per cent and 29 per cent with the full scheme; 1, 839, 613 vaccine doses have been administered in all. The highest vaccination rate is registered in Chisinau – 43 per cent and Soroca – 32 per cent; the lowest one is recorded in Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia – 18 per cent, Sangerei and Leova districts – 19 per cent.
