Chisinau, 19 January /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers, at a today’s meeting, approved the Moldova-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP). Starting from 2006, the Plan has been updated periodically and is based on the constitutional principle of neutrality and the desideratum of modernizing the security and defence system, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.

„Neutrality does not mean the country’s isolation. We are firmly determined to develop the cooperation with our partners in combating the new common threats to security, such as the terrorism, cyber threats and to contribute to the establishment of security in the region and on the European continent. The role of this absolutely necessary partnership for our country is to bring benefits to Moldova’s citizens, to strengthen the state’s institutions in the security and defence sector, contributing to the goal of being a stability factor in the region in continuation,’’ the Moldovan diplomacy head said.

Through this document, the Moldovan authorities are set to modernize the security and defence sector, in accordance with the new developments and requirements of the current security environment, in order to cope with the new challenges.

To fulfill the objectives set, Moldova will cooperate with the European Union and other international organizations, pursuing the goal of complementing IPAP with the Moldova-EU Association Agreement and the national development strategy.

It is worth mentioning that IPAP sets the goals of cooperation in more fields of strategic importance, such as: cooperation with the European and Euro-Atlantic structures, democratic reforms, human rights, rule of law state, fighting corruption, territorial integrity and relations with the neighbours; reform of the security and defence sector, democratic control over the Armed Forces, combating the terrorism, ensuring the cyber security, sustainable economic development and energy security.
