New case of swine fever found in Rascani district

Chisinau, 3 Feb. / MOLDPRES /- National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) has reported the identification of a case of African swine fever, registered in Rascani district.

"On January 31, 2022, laboratory tests confirmed the presence of African swine fever virus (PPA), in samples collected from domestic pigs, in the pig farm, located outside the town of Recea, Rascani district," says ANSA.

Subsequently, the Commission for Emergencies of the Rascani district was convened, which approved a Plan of measures to combat and eradicate this outbreak, according to the legislation.

The territorial subdivision for food safety Rascani has started the epidemiological investigation, has established quarantine measures, eradication measures are underway with the involvement of all district structures and specialists at the central level of ANSA. Restriction areas (protection zone and surveillance zone) have been established around the outbreak.


The last case of PPA in the Republic of Moldova was registered on December 31, 2021 in Cotiujeni, Briceni district, which was eradicated, the restrictions will be lifted on February 15. Similarly, throughout the year 2021 and in January 2022, several cases of PPA in domestic pigs and wild boars were registered in the countries of the region.

ANSA requires pig owners to urgently inform its territorial subdivisions for food safety, veterinarians or local public authorities in the event of illness and loss of animals or the detection of wild boar carcasses. It also requires pig owners not to use food scraps in their feed and to comply with minimum biosecurity requirements.
