Chisinau, 3 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC), in partnership with the Promo-LEX Association, have presented the Concept of amendment of the electoral and related legislation. The document provides for the principal directions of reform of the Electoral Code and the related legislation.
The main amendments of the electoral legislation refer to the increase in the number of polling stations abroad, possibility of organizing, in certain polling stations, the electoral process during two days, as well as the reduction of the maximal number of signatures needed at the registration of candidates for the mayor office from 10,000 to 5,000.
According to the organizers, the reform of the electoral legislation is necessary, given the problems identified at the organization of the last ballots, Constitutional Court’s rulings, consultative opinions of international partners, as well as the conclusions and recommendations of election observation missions.
Representatives of the Central Electoral Commission and Promo-LEX Association voiced hope that the amendments to the Electoral Code would be approved by the parliament in next autumn.
