Joint Control Commission holds meeting

Chisinau, 3 February /MOLDPRES/ - The situation in the Security Zone and the functionality of the peacekeeping mechanism were on the agenda of a meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC), held in Bender today.
According to the Reintegration Policies Bureau, the Commission approved the report of the Joint Military Command for 26 January – 1 February 2022, confirmed to office two new military observers on behalf of Moldova and instructed the summoning of the working groups on technical issues for 15 February.
JCC took note of the lack of active cases of Covid-19 in the units of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces and demanded continuing the measures of preventing the infections among the military strength.
As for the issue of trainings of military contingents, Moldova’s delegation set forth its position that they are to be organized in the places of permanent deployment or at the training centres outside the Security Zone. The delegation of Moldova also reiterated a proposal to set a task for the Joint Military Command to work out regulations to this end.
Also on this subject, representatives of the OSCE Mission asked the sides to be informed in time about the trainings planned. They expressed confidence that, in this way, the situation might be deescalated and the transparency of the specific activities in the Security Zone might be ensured.
The OSCE Mission in Moldova also informed that, during the monitoring of the Security Zone in January 2022, it pointed out that the line formed of reinforced concrete between the settlements of Bender and Varnita continued to be maintained by the Transnistrian structures and represented an obstacle to the free movement of citizens.
The next working meeting of the Joint Control Commission was scheduled for 10 February this year. .
