Chisinau, Feb. 4 / MOLDPRES /- The government's decision to increase compensation for the fisheries and fishery fund was published in the Official Journal today.

According to the document, the compensations for the damage caused by fishing, trade, possession and illicit export have increased, reaching 250-300 conventional units.

The purpose of the project was to increase compensation for damage caused by illegal fishing, trade, possession and export, as well as the destruction of aquatic biological resources. Also, in order to reduce the impact on fishery resources, by-catches of species should be eliminated or reduced to a level that allows for the recovery and conservation of the species.

There are over 15,000 species of animals in the Republic of Moldova, of which: over 280 species of birds, 90 species of fish, 75 species of mammals, 14 species of reptiles, 14 species of amphibians. "Unfortunately, both locally and globally, there is a loss of them. An eloquent situation is the list of species included in the Red Book of Moldova. If in the first edition of 1978 of the Red Book there were no fish species , in the 2001 edition, the number increased to 13 species, and in the 2015 edition there are over 24 species ", the Ministry of Environment said.

In the near future, the number of threatened fish species will increase, there are categories of very vulnerable species that need close monitoring and management. These include: species with restricted geographical areas; species that have only one or a few populations; species with small populations; species with extensive habitat requirements; large species; late maturing species; migratory species etc.
