Working group for preparation of National Afforestation Program met at presidency

Chisinau, 17 Feb. / MOLDPRES /- President Maia Sandu convened yesterday a working group for preparation of the National Afforestation Program, headed by officials from the Ministry of Environment, the presidential press service has reported.
The head of state asked for more details about the program development process, with the ministry team reaffirming its commitment to launch the program by the end of this year.
Maia Sandu reminded that the expansion of the forested area is a major objective of the government. According to the president, the realization of an ambitious afforestation program will reduce the negative consequences of climate change, improve air quality, better protect the soil and water resources. This program will also generate new jobs in the localities of the country. The program is aimed at a period of at least ten years and provides for decisive measures for the management and protection of the country's forests.
The head of state also asked the Ministry of Environment to make public the plans for planting trees this year, in order to ensure better information and a wider participation in this process of all those who value nature.
