Moldovan president meets German Chancellor

Chisinau, 19 Feb. / MOLDPRES /- President Maia Sandu had a meeting today with Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz during Security Conference in Munich. The talks focused on security challenges in the region, the very good dynamics of Moldovan-German relations and joint future projects, the presidential press service has reported.

The head of state appreciated the support that the Republic of Moldova has benefited over the years from Berlin, in various fields, through the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and through the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development. "Thanks to this help, many communities in Moldova have modernized infrastructure, access to water and sewerage, quality public services. I also mentioned the impact of German investments in our country, which have created thousands of jobs in the regions, as well as the importance of helping our health care system during the pandemic, "said the president.

During the talks, Maia Sandu mentioned that our country wants to continue and expand cooperation with Germany, but also that the Republic of Moldova relies on Germany's support in the process of reforming the judiciary and fighting corruption. "We want more German investments that will boost the economy and provide income to our fellow citizens at their home in Moldova. We are also interested in joint projects that will strengthen the energy independence of the Republic of Moldova, including through renewable energy programs, an area in which Germany has extensive experience, "the head of state said at the meeting.

Chancellor Olaf Sholz assured Maia Sandu that the Federal Republic of Germany will remain a reliable partner of our country, as it has been in all 30 years of diplomatic relations.
