OSCE evacuates civilian mission from Ukraine

Chisinau, 26 February /MOLDPRES/ - In connection with the evacuation of the civilian OSCE monitoring mission from Ukraine, we specify that 300 people will be evacuated by land, including 40 Moldovan citizens. The entrance of the majority of the mission’s members started on 26 February, as a result of the impossibility to guarantee the security for its staff, in the connection with the war in Ukraine, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
Moldova’s authorities provide all needed assistance for the good carrying out of this operation, with the state’s institutions being in permanent touch with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
After the arrival of the OSCE representatives in the country, ways will be identified for the as quickly as possible staff in the origin countries, as Moldova is not the final destination for them.
The OSCE special monitoring mission in Ukraine is a civilian mission, the mandate of which was to monitor and inform the international community about the situation in Ukraine, including in the conflict-stricken zone from Donbas. During all its activity, the mission played an essential role in the observation of the situation on the ground, reporting incidents and other relevant developments.
