Moldovan authorities mobilize for second phase of refugees' crisis

Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/ - The last three days have showed how united the Moldovans can be facing a human tragedy; yet, now we will need the same mobilization for the second phase of the crisis, when we should edify a mechanism of backing the refugees for medium and long term. Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita made statements to this effect at a news conference today.
„At this point, Moldova started receiving humanitarian assistance and materials, when we will need to support the refugees and our tasks have become more complicated. For this, we created a single crisis management centre, which provides for extended efforts for backing the refugees in psychological, social, consular, material context, etc.,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.
According to the PM, four specialized centres will deal with the collection, stocking, depositing and distribution of humanitarian assistance or materials from development partners, economic agents and private people. Also, more groups of volunteers brought together under the aegis of the public formation, Moldova for Peace, which works 24 hours and deals with the transportation and distribution of assistance. ‘’All people interested can join these groups of volunteers,’’ the prime minister said.
In this respect, the PM asked all people who make donations to help with non-perishable goods or which have a long validity term. Accounts of the Finance Ministry are available for people willing to help with money.
Also, Natalia Gavrilita announced economic measures, decided at a today’s meeting of the Commission for Emergency Situations, among which the bans to export maize, other food products.
