Head of state says Moldova to provide support to all refugees

Chisinau, 28 February /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova has opened its borders for tens of thousands of citizens. We provide assistance also citizens of other states who leave Ukraine. More than 70,000 people from Ukraine have entered Moldova in the last days. President Maia Sandu made statements to this effect at a news briefing today.
“The war in Ukraine brought much instability and uncertainty in our lives. From the first hours of the crisis, Moldova called for peace. We will host the refugees as long at it is necessary. Moldova calls for ceasing the fights and solving the problems by means of dialogue,’’ Maia Sandu said.
The head of state noted that over 70,000 people from Ukraine had entered Moldova. ‘’In the last week-end, I visited several border crossing points; most refugees are women with children, frightened of what they left back. I told them that they are in safety in Moldova. The tragedy experienced by our neighbours is our tragedy too. The country proved exemplary mobilization, for which I thank everybody,’’ Maia Sandu said.
The Moldovan president specified that, on the last days, she had discussed with more leaders of the European community about the process of Moldova’s integration into EU. ’’For Moldova, the integration into EU is the guarantee of freedom and the surest way for democracy and well-being,’’ Maia Sandu said.
