Chisinau, April 3 / MOLDPRES /- The challenges facing the Republic of Moldova in managing the refugee crisis and the actions taken by the authorities to support people displaced by the conflict in Ukraine were discussed today at a meeting between Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița and US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
The officials exchanged views on the evolution of the situation in the region, pleading for the cessation of military actions and the peaceful settlement of the conflict that directly affects the Republic of Moldova.
In this context, the official appreciated the assistance of the USA in the conditions of the humanitarian crisis, mentioning that the visit of the ambassador to our country is a strong signal of support from the American side, but also from the organizations under the umbrella of the United Nations. The Prime Minister stressed that the help of the international community is needed to increase the capacity of the institutions involved in crisis management, emphasizing that the Government remains firmly committed to ensuring the protection of those seeking refuge in the Republic of Moldova.
"Since the beginning of the war, we have seen unprecedented social cohesion here at home. We have seen how well the state institutions, volunteers, the private sector and the Moldovan diaspora can work together to help people fleeing the war. We have many placement centers set up by economic agents, non-governmental organizations and local communities - refugee families in Ukraine have been offered shelter, food and compassion. Solidarity - is the word that best describes this period. We saw solidarity from the European states, the international communities and, obviously, from the American state ", said Natalia Gavrilița.
Linda Thomas-Greenfield praised the efforts to assist Ukrainian refugees. "My visit to the Republic of Moldova is a sign of friendship and appreciation for the Government you lead. The challenge you are facing now is immense, but know that everyone admires your courage and determination in helping Ukrainian citizens, "the US official said.
The parties also discussed the cooperation of the Republic of Moldova with the USA within the United Nations, as well as the importance of the Moldovan-American dialogue in advancing democratic processes in our country, ensuring the development and well-being of Moldova, regardless of major crises.
