Moldovan foreign affairs minister participates in Moldova Support Platform conference

Chisinau, 5 April /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu, along with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, participated in the Moldova Support Platform Donor Conference in Berlin today. The event is co-organized by Germany, France and Romania and 47 participants took place in it: the European Union member states, United States, Canada, Japan, as well as representatives of the financial institutions and international organizations, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.      

„The mobilization of the effort on behalf of the international community will allow us better manage the humanitarian and energy crises, to achieve the goals or reform, consolidating the rule of law state, public institutions and the improvement of the residents’ living standards,’’ the Moldovan diplomacy head said.   

Moldova’s delegation participated in topic-related working groups set up on five pillars, as follows: humanitarian effort – management of the flow of refugees and their relocation in European states; energy – backing Moldova’s energy security; fight against corruption – support of the government in implementing the ambitious agenda of reforms, including  in the fields of justice, combating corruption and promotion of the economic development; borders’ management – domestic affairs and efficient management of borders; financial assistance – enhancement of the social and economic resilience.   

‘’We will continue to work quickly on our reforms’ agenda, strengthening our democracy and the state’s institutions, advancing in the accession to the European Union,’’ the Moldovan official noted.   

At the conference, the participating states informed that they would support Moldova with a financial package worth more than 695 million euros, which includes direct financial assistance for the country’s budget, grants and concessional loans aimed at implementing reforms and Europenizing Moldova.  

„In cooperation with our partners, we are determined to prove that Moldova is a provider of stability, a country where the democracy works, the reforms are possible, the transformation processes yield results and our European future is irreversible. The fact that Moldova belongs to the European family and our future is in the European Union was once again reconfirmed in Berlin,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu added.
