Chisinau, 6 April /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will join the European Traffic Police Network (Roadpol). The decision was announced today, following a meeting between the secretary general at the Interior Ministry (MAI), Serghei Diaconu, and Roadpol Honorary President Paolo Cestra.

„Moldova tends to become member of the great European family, where the security standards, especially in the road traffic sector, are among the important criteria. This cooperation will allow us implementing joint projects with European public order institutions and aligning with the standards of endowing the police subdivisions with equipment, according to the categories of employees, including gender. This cooperation will improve the quality of the police services, will lead to the improvement of the exchange of information between us and the law-enforcement institutions from the European Union and will enhance the transnational security,’’ Serghei Diaconu said after the meeting.

According to Diaconu, due to the joining of the Network, the police will have access to a more complex database and diverse programmes for enhancing the mobility of the traffic police patrols. Also, joint operations could be carried out, with exchange of the specialists and advanced equipment.

Roadpol is a European Traffic Police Network present in 28 countries. The organization’s goal is to cut the number of deaths on the European roads.
