Moldovan deputy speaker delivered speech at meeting of EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee

Chisinau, April 7 / MOLDPRES /- "We thank you for supporting the prospect of Moldova's accession to the European Union and we are determined to continue to act firmly on justice reform, the fight against corruption and the promotion of human rights. Expressing the will of the Moldovan people, we have applied for EU membership, and now we are looking forward to the evaluation process so that we can anchor ourselves in the European family ”.
Deputy speaker Mihail Popșoi made the statement at a meeting of the Parliamentary Association Committee of the Republic of Moldova - European Union in Strasbourg, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
Mihail Popșoi pointed out the importance of turning to good account all opportunities set out in the Memorandum of Understanding between the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the European Parliament, signed late last year.
The official also referred to the refugee crisis that our country is facing.
"We are living in an extremely complicated period. Since the beginning of the Russian Federation's invasion of Ukraine, we have received a large number of Ukrainian citizens and tried to provide them with the best assistance they needed. We will continue to provide refugees with all the necessary support, and in these efforts we need the support of our European partners. We thank you for the important help already offered for these purposes ", he said.
At the same time, the deputy speaker thanked the European Union, the European Parliament for all the support they have constantly given to our country so far, including in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, in overcoming the terrible energy crisis of last year.
Siegfried Mureșan, Co-Chair of the Moldova-EU Parliamentary Association Committee thanked the Moldovan people, the country's authorities at both the central and local levels for their efforts and all the generous support given to Ukrainian citizens fleeing the war.
"The people of the Republic of Moldova have opened their doors and houses to provide shelter and help to these people, and they deserve all the admiration and encouragement," the MEP said.
According to the MEP, the European Parliament has taken action to support the Republic of Moldova in these efforts and is ready to provide more support.
"The stability and security of the Republic of Moldova is significant for the security and safety of the European Union," said Siegfried Muresan.
The aspirations, efforts and prospects of the people of the Republic of Moldova for integration into the European Union were also encouraged.
It was mentioned that the Republic of Moldova has gained a lot of confidence in Europe recently, especially in the context of the refugee crisis, ensuring stability in the EU's eastern neighborhood.
The 11th meeting of the Parliamentary Committee of the Republic of Moldova - European Union is held in Strasbourg on April 6-7. The Moldovan parliamentary delegation will include co-chair of the Parliamentary Committee of the Moldova-EU Association, Deputy Speaker Mihail Popșoi; Doina Gherman, head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and European Integration and Vasile Bolea, deputy head of the legal committee on rules and immunities; Committee members Olesea Stamate, head of the committee on rules and immunities and Dan Perciun, head of the Committee on Social Protection, Health and Family.
At the end of the meeting, the Final Declaration and recommendations of the 11th meeting of the Parliamentary Association Committee of the Republic of Moldova - European Union will be signed.
