Initiative to counter misinformation subject to public consultation

Chisinau, April 19 / MOLDPRES /- Commission on culture, education, research, youth, sports and media has organized a new round of public consultations on the initiative to counter the spread of misinformation.
The event was attended by representatives of media service providers and distributors and representatives of media associations in the country. During this round of public consultations, the participants discussed the provisions of the document regarding the proposed amendments to the Code of Audiovisual Media Services.
The draft law, which aims to revise the regulatory framework on the protection of public information space, was voted, in the first reading, at the plenary session of April 7, 2022.
The document proposes to amend the existing legal framework in order to define and standardize the notions of misinformation and information affecting the security of public information space, adjust sanctions, and establish and clarify the responsibilities of state institutions responsible for preventing and countering misinformation or fake news in public information space.
