Chisinau, 24 April /MOLDPRES/ - The Orthodox Christians today celebrate the Holy Easter, regarded as the greatest holiday of the Christianity, which means the Resurrection of the Lord.

On this occasion, religious services were officiated in the churches of Moldova and thousands of Moldovans went to churches to take the Holy Fire. The Holy Fire from Jerusalem was carried to Moldova this year as well.

In his pastoral letter, Metropolitan of Chisinau and All Moldova, Most Right Reverend Vladimir said that, in difficult times, marked by ordeal and scourges, each man individually and the mankind, in general, expect good news. For the believers, the News of Resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ is the mostly expected one; it does not lose and neither it diminishes its sense, going through the tragic history of centuries, but on the contrary, it is updated and it asserts itself more and more, as being a bringer of a new breath of hope and courage for the Christians of any times, as it was for the first disciples and apostles. The Easter news distinguishes itself as God’s answer to man’s hope.

The Easter Holidays are celebrated during three days. The Holy Easter is preceded by a long period of the Lent and on the last week of the Lent, called the Passion Week, the Entry of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem is marked.

On the eve of the Easter, the Christians prepare their baskets with food products and carry them to churches be blessed. At the same time, believers clink together red eggs, which signify the new life received through the Blood of the Savior.

In 2023, the Holy Easter will be marked on 16 April, in 2024 – on 5 May and in 2025 – on 20 April.
