Moldovan president has meeting with European Council President

Chisinau, 4 May /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with European Council President Charles Michel, on a visit to Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.
The officials discussed the situation in the region and the economic, social and humanitarian consequences of the war in Ukraine on Moldova. The head of state repeatedly spoke out for the re-establishment of peace, which is priority for a prosperous common future. For his part, President Michel thanked the Moldovan citizens for the generosity proved towards the refugees from Ukraine and gave assurances that EU would further be with Moldova.
President Maia Sandu said the authorities relied on the support for Moldova’s accession to the Singe Europe Payments Area (SEPA) and for the acceptance of the Moldovan mobile operators on the European roaming network. At the same time, the head of state asked for help in form of fertilizers, in order to back the agriculture and ensure the country’s food security. The discussions regarded also subjects on cooperation in the security sector and border control.
„To reduce the war’s negative effects on the economy, we need a greater openness of the European market for the Moldovan products and permits for crossing the EU territory for our carriers of goods. We appreciate the European Union’s multidimensional assistance, especially on this difficult period and we will continue working so that one day we enter the great European family, for the good of all citizens of our country,’’ the head of state said.
