Moldovan, Lithuanian officials broach cooperation

Chisinau, May 7 / MOLDPRES /- President Maia Sandu met today with President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda, who came on a solidarity visit to our country, the presidential press service has reported.

The two presidents discussed the new regional context following Russia's war in Ukraine, expressed solidarity with the neighboring country and called for dialogue and peace. The head of state mentioned that the Moldovan authorities are closely following the security developments in the region, and the priority remains the maintenance of peace and security for the citizens.

Maia Sandu referred to the fact that Moldova and Lithuania welcomed Ukrainian refugees into their homes. In this context, the head of state thanked the support of 750 thousand euros, provided by Vilnius to cover part of the expenses of the Republic of Moldova for the maintenance of refugees.

"For many years, Lithuania has supported our country in various sectors - agriculture, law and order, defense, combating hybrid risks and misinformation, good governance. We count on the support of Lithuania in our European journey and we are confident that we will be supported to reduce the economic and social consequences of this war, "said Maia Sandu.
