Chisinau, May 9 / MOLDPRES /- The United Nations appreciates Moldova's efforts to get involved in the Ukrainian refugee crisis and this fragile country deserves massive support, including budget support to maintain stability. The statement was made today in Chisinau by the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița.
The premier said that the visit of the UN official is coming at a difficult time for the region. "It is a sign of support for peace and for all of us. The visit comes on a symbolic day in which we mark the end of the war. Peacekeeping remains an important goal for the UN and our region today. Military aggression against Ukraine is a flagrant violation of human rights. Our country has supported all UN resolutions on this issue. More than 90,000 refugees still remain in the Republic of Moldova. Our country is facing such a challenge for the first time, which is why we have to face several difficulties. Thanks for your support so far. Today, the Republic of Moldova is facing a crisis overlap, but regardless of the challenges, I assure you that the Republic of Moldova is on the path of development. The war has convinced us that we have no time to waste. Moldova has been a member of the UN for 30 years, during which time we have built a reliable partnership. In a few months, we will approve a new partnership framework between the Republic of Moldova and the UN ", Gavrilița said.
António Guterres thanked Moldovans for their generosity. "Moldova needs and deserves massive support, including budget support to maintain stability. The UN is committed to supporting not only the people of Ukraine but also the Republic of Moldova during this difficult time. Despite the difficult and tragic circumstances, I have already lived the experience of hospitality offered by you. It is about the humanity and generosity of Moldovans. Moldova is a small country with a big soul. The UN and our organizations can and will support the Government. Moldova is at the forefront of peace and stability in the world, with the war so close and the divisions it knows. I hope that the actors on both banks of the Dniester will show responsibility to prevent any threat to the Republic of Moldova ", he said.
António Guterres pays a visit to our country on May 9-10.
